Hi!

This is my first video game using the tool Bitsy. As all the planning and development happened before adding to Itch, there hasn’t been any build up to release - which I’m keen to do differently with the next game! Any info posted here about development of The Existentialist will have been done in retrospect. It’s been a fun journey making this game and hasn’t been without its mishaps and challenges. The initial idea was to create a maze-type game, being a fan of mazes and labyrinths. This evolved into a mystery theme: I am interested in ancient civilisations such as the Aztecs and Mayans, with the discoveries around old sites often prompting more questions than answers. I wanted to have this central overriding idea of “what happened here? How did this culture vanish?”. While I wasn’t sure what the answers were to these questions at the start, experimenting, playing around with the unfamiliar software to understand it’s mechanica and the possibilities and limitations informed how the game evolved.
